Yes, it is big news and we are excited to
share it with those who are interested in a full and active
retirement lifestyle.
Panorama President Joseph Di Santo
announced last summer the construction of an aquatic and fitness
center to meet the high interest of residents to stay in shape
(or get in shape) and stay healthy. The new Aquatic and
Fitness Center is truly state of the art. The 3.6 million
dollar building is 10,812 square feet of
concrete, wood frame and steel construction.
Six thousand square feet of the building is
devoted to three pools. A large 30 by 60 lap pool with line
markers, heated to 84 degrees, also serves for water aerobics. The 13 by 41 walking pool, heated to
about 94 degrees and a spa pool with benches, heated to 104
degrees, will also find many uses. A porcelain tiled deck wraps
around all three pools for socializing.
The pools are built in the infinity style,
which means the water level is even with the deck level. An
ozone system is used for sanitizing the water. The advantage of
this system is that far less chlorine is used, eliminating the
typical pool smells and irritation. The lighting is reflected
off the high cathedral wood ceiling for a good level of
glare-free lighting and steps are gentle with handrails for ease
of movement in and out of the pools.
Three fitness and exercise rooms adjoin the
pool area. They include an aerobics room with its own sound
system, an exercise room with mirrors and hand weights and a
machine room for equipment like treadmills and bikes. Each room
has wall or ceiling mounted televisions.
The three rooms will accommodate group exercises; tai chi
classes and private weight lifting and exercising.
The building has a residential character to
fit the Panorama campus and takes many of its colors and
material cues from the recently constructed Panorama Reception
Hall. This Aquatic and Fitness Center was designed as Phase I of
new Resident Activity Center. Phase II and III will include a
200-seat Auditorium and class rooms to accommodate Life Long
Learning Courses and other resident education and interest group
gatherings and classes. Phase II and III will be added as the
Panorama Foundation completes Capital Fundraising
efforts.
