questions you might want answered as you search for the right
retirement home for you!
1.
How much does it cost?
What do I get for the monthly fee? Do I have to pay for services
and food I do not use or want? Do I get any of the entrance fee
(security deposit) refunded if I move out? What is the price range
of entrance fee (security deposit)? What is the history of monthly
fee price increases?
2.
What do people do there? What kind of activities and
organizations are on campus? What is there to do in the surrounding
community?
3.
What is the climate like? How hot does it get? How cold does
it get? Can I get out and about throughout the year?
4.
What types of home styles are there? How much storage is
available? Are there single family homes? Are there any ground
level, easy access homes? What features are in the homes to make
them comfortable? Is parking convenient and covered?
5.
How do I get around if I do not want to drive?
Is there a good transportation system? How far from convenient
and comfortable shopping and community services?
6.
What if my spouse or I get ill or frail?
Are services available to assist us? Is there a quality Medicare
/ Medicaid certified and licensed skilled nursing facility on
campus? Are there other services available that could assist us
in our home?
7.
Do I have to eat all of my meals in the facility dining room?
Are the kitchens full service or simply convenience kitchens?
What are my choices and options in regards to meal selection?
8.
How safe will I be in the community or facility?
Is the neighborhood and surrounding community safe? Is there
professional staff on duty 24 hours a day to respond to
emergencies?
9. Is there a
waiting list? How long is it? How long do I have to wait? How is
it managed?
10. Is there a
mandatory move-around policy? Will I have to move out at a
certain age? or ever? Who decides?
11. Are there entrance
requirements and minimum age requirements? What are they? What are
the health criteria? Financial criteria?
12. Are pets allowed?
